Brian Brant
SASD School Board Member Candidate (Region 2)

On May 15 you, the voter, will be given the opportunity to select which School Board Member candidates you would like to have on the November ballot and I, along with my running-mate Laurie VanBremen, are asking for your vote.

As a graduate of the Somerset Area School District I’m eager to become involved with the district and I’m confident I would make a good board member for the district and community. Below are some reasons why.

Listening to the Community
I believe that a School Board must be responsive and receptive to the district's employees, parents, students and the community at large, encouraging an open dialog. The Board must take input from all groups and weigh all the facts before making a decision. A board member is a trustee of the community that elects him or her. That Trustee must be accessible and willing to collaborate with all members of the community including the district's staff. ANYONE WHO COMES BEFORE THE BOARD HAS THE RIGHT TO BE HEARD - NOT JUST LISTENED TO. A school board member must build public understanding, support and participation and act accordingly for the good of the district and community.

Honesty & Integrity
Honesty and integrity are the best qualities a person can have and I take great pride knowing that I have a high degree of these values. I was taught to be fair and sincere with everyone and I believe this has enabled me to make sound judgments, both personally and professionally.

Education is #1
I hold a very strong conviction that education must be the top priority of the Somerset Area School District. As a board member I would do whatever possible to ensure that our students are being fully prepared for their future.

Respect
I have a high degree of respect for all employees within the Somerset Area School District and, if elected, I will work hard to earn their respect as well. I believe having mutual respect for one-another will create more open doors, allowing for greater progress in the district and community.

Sound Decision-Making
Over the years, my experience in the Computer Science industry has required me to make critical and thought-out business decisions on a daily basis. As a school board member I believe this will absolutely benefit me in making crucial decisions that not only impact the school district but the community as well. I do not make hasty decisions and I have the courage to stand up for my convictions.
